Music is my life

Updated: Mar 13, 2020

It is a pity that true music artists can't just get all their credits in music. This course is designed for students who are also doing music but want to gain enough level 3 credits in approved subjects for University entrance.

This will be done through:

Media Studies

English

Music Eg Protest song

Create a Website

Many of the standards will revolve around making a website. The first step is to plan out your website. Look at other sites and collect ideas and concepts. Then answer these questions. I will also attach an exemplar.

1. What were my influences? How did they change what I was planning to do?

2. Who is your audience - explain what kind of people they are?

3. How will you cater to your audience?

4. What obstacles do you think you will face and how will you overcome them?

5. What resources will you need to achieve your plan?

6. Why will you use the platform that you will make the website on? What advantages and disadvantages will it give you?

7. What is the timeline? When will things be completed?

8. Where will you get the information and technical support to create a website?

Discuss your plan with a peer or your teacher and then make appropriate changes. Explain why you made the changes to your plan.

Then create your website. It should be suitable for multiple platforms like mobile and desktop.

(This will be for standard 91494 and 91495) - 10 credits

You could then use an external to get the rest of the media studies credits but I never rely purely on exams - too much stress.

Writing content for your website

You are to write an article about music. This should be to either inform, entertain or to change someone's mind. You should have a nut graph (a paragraph at the start that summaries in an exciting way the article) You need a headline and a byline as well.

The article should be about 1000 words in length, it should have paragraphs and a great concluding paragraph, it should have pictures. It can't have spelling or grammar mistakes and it needs to engage the audience.

Here is another lesson that is similar to this.

Look at New Zealand music videos and see how it represents an aspect of New Zealand society and write an article on it. This should be a thoughtful piece and looking at the impact media depictions of New Zealand society can change or influence reality.

Write an article that analyses the lyrics of a song. Research what others have said and look at the psychology behind it. See if this can improve your understanding of the song lyrics. Analyse the lyrics in-depth.

Pick a music video and analyse how it was made, the relation between the music and the message in the video. What is the effect of visual and verbal features? Basically pick apart the video in every aspect and analyse what new meaning you have from this process.

(This is for 91476) 3 credits

Create a podcast - Do an interview with a musician, maybe have a rant about an aspect of the music industry that you don't like. Post this podcast on your site.

Here is a lesson on Podcasts.

(This is for 91477) 3 credits

Create an infographic - This can be around something that you know about music or a band. It should be dynamic and interesting while it communicates a developed idea using images and words.

Here is a similar lesson to this.

Though these are all Achievement standards there is also 29788 that is a unit standard for creating a website and evaluating it for 5 credits.
