Make a Movie - Complete list

Updated: Mar 13, 2020

This project should take a year and it will tick off all your approved subjects to get University Entrance. In this course, you will plan and create a short film. I'm aiming everything around horror as that genre is what most filmmakers start with. The techniques and the genre conventions are clear and easy to replicate - especially on a budget.

Term 1

Planning and research - You will plan your production and research the genre. You will also start your marketing designs.

Make a Movie Part 1 - Research Horror

Make a Movie Part 2 - New Zealand Horror

Make a Movie Part 3 - Production plan

Make a Movie Part 4 - Logo design

Term 2

Production and marketing - You will film and edit your film and start designing different aspects of your marketing.

Make a Movie Part 5 - Shooting a film

Make a Movie Part 6 - Editing a film

Make a Movie Part 7 - Movie Posters

Make a Movie Part 8 - Press Kit

Term 3

Design and marketing - You will prepare to show your film.

Make a Movie Part 9 - Swag

Make a Movie Part 10 - Website

Make a Movie Part 11 - Movie Trailer

Make a Movie Part 12 - Presenting

Here is a list of the standards that will be attempted and how they work to give you three approved subjects for University Entrance.

English

91475 Writing Portfolio (6 Credits) - This should be completed by part 10

91479 Critical Text (research 4 Credits) - Part 1

91477 Create a visual text (3 Credits) - Part 11

91473 Film - external (4 Credits)

An alternative to the external - Speech (if you present your project before the showing you can tick this one off as well), Close viewing or Connections. I've included the exam because if you want to have the subject endorsed at Merit or above you need to have at least one external.

Media Studies

91492 Representation (3 Credits) - Part 2

91497 Media Article (3 Credits) - Part 8

91494 Plan a media product (4 Credits) - Part 3

91495 Produce a media product (6 credits) - Part 5 & 6

You can also include an external. I would recommend 91493 as you can discuss the relationship between horror and society.

Visual Arts

91455 Design portfolio (14 Credits) - Part 4, 7, 8, 9 & 10 and possibly 11

If you do not wish to do the external you can break down all the different projects into these standards. But you will have to do painting, photography or sculpture to fill in the gaps.

91445 Use drawing to demonstrate understanding design conventions (4 Credits) Part 4

91450 Systematically clarify designs through drawings (4 Credits) Part 9

91460 A complete work (4 Credits) Part 7

If you are more a photographer than a designer than you can create a series of images/stills from the movie. The process, moving on to the actual shoot and then finishing off with dramatic character profiles with heavily manipulated images.

I've split this project up into terms but here is another way to approach it.

Your last year of school is usually about 34 weeks of school.

Week 1-2 Part 1

Week 3-4 Part 2

Week 5-7 Part 3

Week 8-10 Part 4

Week 11-17 Part 5-6

Week 18 Part 7

Week 19-20 Part 8

Week 21-23 Part 9

Week 24-26 Part 10

Week 27-29 Part 11 - Send off Portfolio

Week 30-32 Part 12

Week 33-34 Prepare for exams

It will depend on how your school is structured and whether you work better focusing on one project at a time.
