Media interaction

Updated: Mar 13, 2020

Recently my comments about using Facebook has garnered comments of Okay Boomer. Different age groups use media in a different way to a younger generation. This lesson will look at the differences and look for patterns by using data collected.

Start off by picking someone that has different media habits to you. Social media might be easier to look at than the others as it is very distinct but any media habits are appropriate.

Create a survey to find out about their media habits. I recommend a google form because of ease.

You can either interview the subject or make sure you ask questions in the survey that will allow you to create a subject profile. Things like where they use the media, when, why on what devices. What influences their choices? Do the survey yourself as you will be comparing their data with your own. Make sure to have sufficient data so at least a week's worth of media use should be recorded. Don't forget to include a hypothesis.

From this information, you should create some graphs. This should help you to see trends and patterns.

From the graphs make some general statements that you have uncovered. What trends do you see? Are there any patterns or outliers that are confusing? Why do you think these exist? What similarities do you see? Are there any differences? You should have at least three trends or patterns that you identify.

You can either write up your findings or make a presentation.
