To start your assessment you need to explore a question around the horror genre. Why are we drawn to horror movies? Why do we have monsters in our movies? Why do we enjoy watching violence? Come up with your own question to explore.
Find out what psychologists and film critics or literary critics think. They need to know what they are talking about so make sure they are good sources.
